Clatsop Forest Loop Drive

The gathering spot is Longbottom Coffee & Tea to assemble the group and sign the MBCA waivers, but come early to enjoy coffee, pastries, and socializing. Use the Contact Organizer button above to let us know you are joining us. Driver's meeting planned for 9:45 am. Maps will be passed out at this time. We will depart sharply at 10:00 am after a short driver's meeting.

The initial part of the drive is easy touring followed by some beautiful winding roads through the Clatsop Forest. Our first stop is the Big O Saloon in Olney for lunch. It is a bucolic establishment offering burgers, sandwiches, salads, and wraps. There is limited parking in a gravel area, but the grassy area across the street is also available for parking. We will try to park together in the grassy area for some great photos of the cars and drivers.

After lunch we will continue on to Astoria driving "parade style" through town. In case we get separated in traffic we will regroup in the parking lot of the Columbia River Maritime Museum. This is also an opportunity for some great group photos.

The most beautiful and fun part of our drive is reaching Clatskanie, then turning south for some amazing twisty roads before regrouping just outside of Vernonia at Spencer City Park (restrooms available). Next it is a "parade style" drive through Vernonia with optional stops for snacks and drinks. This will conclude the "organized" part of the drive. The total drive time is about 3 hours plus stops.

Add to the FUN!!

The use of Midland (or similar brand) short wave radios is a great way to keep in touch with the rest of the group and report problems. With the simple Push to talk (PTT) operation, you can instantly alert everyone on the channel to road hazards, car trouble, or fun observations. We highly suggest you bring one of these on the next drive!!
