Chartered in 1962, the Desert Stars section's membership is predominantly from Central and Northern Arizona. One of the oldest and largest sections in the Mercedes Benz Club of America, it is centered in Phoenix, but events are held all over Arizona and the southwestern United States.
The Desert Stars pride themselves in their local activities but are also strong supporters of the national organization. The section has provided two national presidents and numerous officers and directors for the national board of the MBCA.
During the months of September through June, the Section holds at least one event per month and sometimes more. Some of our perennial favorite events are:
Family Picnic in March; Road Rallye the M-BEAT is held in April; Poker Run, held at various times during the year; Premier rallye weekend, Havasupai, in late September or early October; Holiday Party, usually the first Sunday of December; Miscellaneous dining opportunities throughout the year.
During the summer months it is usually too hot in the desert for an event, so we have our annual Escape From the Heat event in August, where we go up into Arizona's high country for a weekend of cool temperatures.
Administratively, the section publishes a bi-monthly newsletter, the StarDust, to keep our members informed of both upcoming and past events as well as Section and MBCA matters of interest. It is also posted on our Section website a few days before being emailed to the Section membership. The Section's Board meets monthly during the months of September through May on the third Tuesday of each month. Members and perspective members are welcome and encouraged to attend these meeting. We only ask that one of the Section Officers is contacted in advance, since space is limited.
