Gettleman Garage Technical Session
- Using a 2 post car lift members will be able to inspect the underside of their cars
- Star Diagnostic Tool available to identify fault codes
Are you curious about the underside of your Mercedes? Do you have a fluid leak but not sure where it's coming from? Do you need to inspect your suspension or exhaust systems? Do you have a check engine light or other trouble warning? If you answer yes then this tech session is for you.
For most of us there are only a few options. Take the car to a Mercedes-Benz workshop for a diagnostic inspection (expensive) or raise the car on jacks in our own driveways and crawl underneath (dangerous).
As an alternative, our very own Houston section members, Larry & Ricky Gettleman, have invited the club to their home to use a Gilbarco 2-post offset car lift for an inspection of the underside of our cars. With the lift you will be able to safely inspect the car for leaks and wear items while standing underneath. Please note that this will be for inspections or minor repairs only, to give everyone an opportunity on the lift. We will be able to remove the bottom plastic skid plate covers to get a closer look if required. The garage has heat and air conditioning.
Joining us for this event will be another Houston section member / former Mercedes-Benz technician to answer questions and offer advice. The technician will bring a Star Diagnostic Tool used to identify fault codes and troubleshoot issues on Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The Star Diagnostic Tool is used at the dealers for trouble shooting faults and clearing check engine lights and many other trouble codes. The tool can be used on any Mercedes with an OBD-II connector. All cars sold in the US after 1996 will have an OBD-II (Onboard Diagnostic 2) port.
This no cost event is for MBCA member cars only.
There are a few local restaurants nearby so we can go to lunch afterwards.
Larry & Ricky live in the Grand Lakes 4 area, off S. Fry Road and west of the Grand Parkway:
